Chandrayaan-3 is India’s successful moon mission conducted by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). It was launched on July 14, 2023 at 2:30 pm,local time (5 am.ET), from Satish Dhawan Space Centre and landed on August 23, 2023. It is a follow-up of Chandrayaan-2 which was failed to make a soft landing and crashed during touchdown.

The main objectives of Chandrayaan 3 is to safely and softly land on the space of the moon and conduct on-site experiments on the lunar surface. After all, only three countries, the U.S., Russia, and China have successfully soft-landed on the moon. After a successful landing on the moon, India became the fourth country to achieve a soft landing on the Moon. India is the first country who landed space mission to land near the South Pole.

Chandrayaan-3 will consist of a Lander Module (LM), a Propulsion Module (PM), and a rover. The lander is called Vikram, and the rover is called Pragyan. The Vikram will be responsible for a soft landing on the lunar surface, while the Propulsion Module (PM)carries the lander and rover configuration and provides propulsion and attitude control for the entire mission. The solar-powered rover will explore the lunar surface and transmit data to Earth.

Chandrayaan-3’s basic objectives include

1.Soft Landing: It is one of the main objectives of Chandrayaan-3 is to achieve a soft landing on the Moon’s surface. This will be a critical milestone for ISRO, considering the challenges faced during the Vikram lander’s attempted landing during Chandrayaan-2 on 2019.

2.Enhanced Lunar Surface Studies:

The mission purposes to conduct in-depth studies of the Moon’s surfaces, its minerals, and its topography. The data collected will contribute to a Better Understanding of lunar geology and its evolution.

3.Rover Exploration

Chandrayaan-3 is expected to Deploy a Rover similar to Pragyan, which will traverse the lunar surface and perform scientific experiments. The rover’s mobilities will allow it to cover a larger area and gather diverse data.

In conclusion: The Chandrayaan 3 Mission is a significant achievement for the Indian space program. It represents a remarkables  step forward for India’s space program and showcases the nation’s dedication to space exploration and discovery.
