What are Endocrine Gland?

Endocrine Glands

Hormones are biologically active agents of ductless gland which called endocrine gland.

Endocrine gland secrete their respective substances directly into the bloodstream rather than through a duct.

These endocrine gland belong to the body’s control system and they produce hormones which help to adjusted the functions of cells. Some glandd are specific to either male ‘testes’ or female ‘ovaries’.

Major Endocrine gland

The endocrine gland of the body are:

  • Pituitary gland
  • Pancreas
  • Thyroid
  • Parathyroid
  • Adrenal gland
  • Ovary
  • Testes
  • Thymus

In addition the hypothalamus produces hormones, which regulate the secretion of pituitary hormones.These are called releasing hormones(RH).

The placenta aslo secretes two hormones.Hypothalamus releasing hormones are growth hormone releasing hormones(GHRH), thyrotropin-releasing hormones(TRH).

Also gonadotropin releasing hormone(GRH) and corticotropin releasing hormone(CRH).

The hypothalamus inhibitory hormones are somatostatin and prolactin inhibiting hormone(PIH).
