Place of birth and early life 

St.Mother Teresa was born to Albanian Parents at Skopje in Macedonia,on August 26,1910.Her early name was Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu.Her father Nicholas Bojaxhiu was a building contractors.Her mother Dranafile Bernai came from nearby Venice.Her Sister Age was born in 1904 and brother Lazar was born in 1907.

Mother Teresa had her early education at Sacred Heart Church.This Church became an indispensable part of her life.By the age of twelve,she knew she had to be a missionary to spread the love of Christ.”I was only twelve years old and lived at home with my parents in Skopje when I first the desire to become a nun,”recalled Mother Teresa.

She came to India and took her initial vows as a nun .For seventeen she taught at St Mary’s High school in Kolkata.But the suffering and poverty she glimpsed outside the convent walls made a deep impression on her.In 1948 ,she sought permission from her superiors to leave the convent school and devote herself to working among the poorest of the poor in the slums of Kolkata.She started an open -air school for slums of Kolkata.She started getting financial support too.She set up a home called ‘Nirmal Hriday’ in Kolkata for the destitute and unwanted children.Since then she had never looked back.She founded Missionaries of charity.She organised School and dispensaries as well as centres for the aged, dying,blind, crippled and lepers.

Mother Teresa received a number of awards and distinctions, including the novel prize (1979),The pope XXIII Peace Prize and the nehru Prize for promotion of international peace and understanding and the Bharat Ratna(1980)
