What is Rheumatoid Arthritis?

Rheumatoid Arthritis(RA) is a chronic system inflammatory disease affecting the joint and articular tissues.It is an autoimmune disease.The inflammatory cells release lysosomal enzymes which damage certilage and bone while the PGs produced in the process cause vasodilation and pain.

It is a chronic, progressive crippling disorder with a waxing and waning course

Drugs used in its treatment are:                   First Choice:

Non steroidal Anti-inflammatory agent are the first choice.They give symptomatic relief i.e.reduce joint paint, swelling, morning stiffness and immobility

Second Choice:

These are used when NSAIDs failed.These drugs acting by modifying the immune response.They are used along with NSAIDs to provide symptomatic relief of pain.
